Unpopular opinion: That TikTok filter that makes your eyes huge is actually kind of creepy

I kept seeing everyone raving about the big eye filter on TikTok last month. My cousin posted like 15 videos with it and got 3,000 likes. I finally tried it myself after work last Tuesday and honestly it freaked me out. My eyes looked like dinner plates and my head shrunk down to nothing. It reminded me of those old anime drawings where the proportions are just off. I realized I was only using it because everyone else was not because it actually looked good. Has anyone else noticed how these filters actually make you look less human instead of more attractive?

Respectfully, you’re looking at it wrong. The whole point of that filter is to be over the top and silly, not realistic. It’s like wearing a goofy hat to a party - you’re not trying to look professional, you’re trying to be funny or cute for a second. A lot of people use it to make goofy faces or play along with trends, not because they think big eyes are their best look. Honestly, calling it creepy feels like overthinking a joke. It’s just a fun little tool for a quick laugh, same as any other weird filter that warps your face for a second.

And the thing nobody talks about is how these filters mess with your photo memory. I was scrolling through my camera roll last week and couldn't tell which pictures were my real face and which ones had the filter on. There was a whole stretch of vacation photos where I looked like an alien because I forgot I had it running. My friend Sarah posted a birthday selfie with the filter and her grandma didn't recognize her in it. That's where it stops being a joke and starts feeling like a weird digital disguise we slap on without thinking.

Over the top and silly" maybe, but my cousin literally cried because she thought her real eyes were ugly after using it for a week. That's not funny anymore.
