Question about a kombucha scoby I got from a guy at the farmers market

Met a guy at the Springfield market last month selling scobys from a big jar. He said his brew was 'bulletproof'. Took it home, started a batch. After a week, the whole thing turned fuzzy and blue. Had to dump the whole gallon. He gave me his number but it's disconnected now. Anyone know where to get a clean starter culture around here?

Yeah I used to think that too, but @elizabethhayes is right.

That fuzzy blue growth means it was mold, not kahm yeast. I'd check the local co-op, they usually have reliable starter cultures in the fridge section.

Blue fuzz can happen with kahm too, it's not always mold.
