Pickle juice pooled under my neighbor's door after a ferment fail
This guy downstairs decided to ferment pickles in a giant ceramic crock he got at a yard sale. He put it in his closet and forgot about it for a week. The fermentation got so active it pushed the lid up and spilled all over the floor. The brine seeped under his door and into the hallway, making the whole floor smell like dill and vinegar. People were slipping on the wet spots and complaining about the stink. He had to mop it up with towels while apologizing to everyone. Now we joke that our building has its own pickle-scented air freshener.

Heard about a guy whose pickle crock cracked from pressure.

But that natural ferment smell beats chemical air fresheners any day.

Yeah that natural ferment smell is great until it gets into things. I read somewhere that the sourdough starter smell can actually soak into kitchen towels and aprons permanently. Kinda makes you think twice about where you keep it.
