My morning jar-burping ritual is creating more problems than it solves

I thought frequent burping would prevent explosions, but now my ferments are oxidizing and losing flavor.

Sounds like your burping routine is backfiring spectacularly. All that air exposure is probably letting the funk escape along with the pressure. Congrats, you might have invented a new way to make bland pickles.

Okay yeah that actually makes sense. Charles_taylor58's point about the funk staying put got me thinking, I used to burp my jars all the time too. Might have to stop messing with them so much.

Actually, the funk she's talking about stays put. Oxidation kills the fresh flavors, not the sour tang.
