I finally tried a glass weight versus a cabbage leaf for keeping kraut submerged.

The weight gave me a perfect, mold-free batch in Cleveland's humid summer, but my friend swears the leaf is more traditional. Which one actually works better for you?

Lost three jars" is a pretty strong case for the weight.

Honestly, I was a cabbage leaf person for years because it felt right. Then I lost three jars in a row to that white film and switched to a simple glass weight. Haven't seen a speck of mold since, even in my gross basement. Tradition is cool, but I'd rather have kraut I can actually eat.
