Tried using a post driver on a rocky slope in Boulder last month and bent the handle on the third swing.

I used to think those things were just heavy metal tubes, but they're actually pretty delicate. Hitting solid rock is like swinging a hammer at an anvil, and the post driver always loses. I'm a lot more careful about checking the ground first now.

My neighbor hit a buried curb and bent his driver last spring.

Oh man, bending the handle on the third swing is brutal but I totally get it. I tried to put in a fence post in what looked like normal dirt and hit a hidden river rock the size of a football. The whole thing just shuddered and the shock went right up my arms. I had to stop for the day because my hands were buzzing. That rocky ground is no joke.
