Still fuming about a homeowner who questioned my post hole depth last week

I've been doing this for 12 years, and this guy in Maplewood pulls out a tape measure while I'm digging. He says 'I think 30 inches is fine, my uncle did it that way.' I told him frost line here is 42. He argued for 10 minutes. I finally just packed up and left. He called me back an hour later to apologize. Has anyone else had a customer second-guess your depth calls like that?

I know exactly how you feel and it drives me crazy when people do that! You have 12 years of experience and some guy thinks his uncle's way from like 30 years ago is better than the actual code? That frost line depth is there for a reason and it's not like we just make those numbers up for fun. I bet he felt real dumb when he looked it up later or talked to someone who actually knows what they're talking about. Good on you for walking away though, sometimes that's the only way they learn you're not messing around. Glad he called you back to apologize because that takes some guts at least!

Alright it was probably 20 years ago not 30.

I mean, yeah the guy was wrong about the frost line @oliver_morgan, but is a concrete pad really that SERIOUS of a thing to get all worked up over?
