Question about using a post driver versus a power auger on a rocky property

I had to pick between renting a power auger for $200 a day or just using my manual post driver on a job in Boulder with really rocky soil, and I went with the driver which saved money but added two full days of extra work... so was the time trade-off worth it, or should I have just eaten the cost?

Boulder soil is no joke, I've dealt with it. Rocky as hell. You spent two extra days though. That's 16 hours of your life for $200. That comes out to $12.50 an hour. Is your free time really worth less than minimum wage? I mean, if you were just sitting around watching TV anyway, maybe it was worth it. But if you could have been doing other paying work or just relaxing, seems like you shortchanged yourself.

Man, that's the classic "pay with your money or pay with your time" choice. I see it everywhere now.

Totally feel that. I used to always pick the free option that took forever, like watching ads or doing surveys. Now I just pay the few bucks if it's something I use a lot. My time is worth more to me now than saving that small amount of cash. It's a shift in how you see your own hours, you know? Once you make that choice a few times, you stop feeling guilty about it.
