Got a job where the ground was all rock and had to pick between a manual post hole digger or renting a gas auger.

I went with the manual digger to save the rental fee, but man, it took me three full days to get six holes done. Anyone else ever choose the hard way and instantly regret it?

My buddy tried to save money digging fence posts in his yard last fall. He hit what he called "Georgia granite" about eight inches down. Watched him swing that digger for a whole weekend and he only got two holes done before his arms gave out. He ended up at the rental place Monday morning anyway, looking like he'd lost a fight. Sometimes that rental fee is just the price of keeping your sanity.

Ever try to dig in pure clay? That rental fee starts looking real cheap real fast.

What kind of rock was it, like solid bedrock or just a ton of big stones? That makes a huge difference.
