That influencer who told me to ditch zippers for magnetic closures was totally wrong about practicality

Spent 6 hours fixing a jacket where the magnet kept snagging on my stovetop at work, has anyone else had this fail in a real kitchen setting?

A buddy of mine worked prep in a diner and thought magnetic closures were genius for his chef coat. First day he leans over the flattop and the magnet grabbed a metal spatula handle and flipped it right into the bacon fat. The whole thing went flying and his jacket sleeve caught the edge of the burner. He spent the rest of the shift with a wet rag on his arm and a singed coat. The head chef made him tape the magnets down with electrical tape after that. Magnetic stuff looks cool but in a real kitchen it just turns into a disaster waiting to happen.

Yeah magnetic closures on jackets are terrible for kitchen work, magnets and metal stovetops just dont mix.

Tuck that magnet flap under the collar while you cook, @emery19, I learned that trick after ruining a good jacket on an electric range. Magnets will grab onto anything metal nearby, so just keep it folded back and it won't snag on handles or burners. A little habit like that has saved my coat from getting singed more times than I care to count.
