My dad's boring suit ideas are killing menswear fun

Parents push safe clothes because they fear standing out too much. My dad always tells me to stick with gray and navy suits for every event. He says loud patterns or bright colors make you look silly. This made my first collection full of dull, samey jackets that no one noticed. Now I mix plaids with stripes and add pops of color like orange linings. People actually comment on my pieces and ask where to get them. Trust your own eye, not what your relatives think is proper.

Isn't it funny how that "play it safe" advice spreads to everything? I see it with cars and houses too, everyone scared to pick the interesting thing.

I mean, picking safe cars and houses just makes sense to avoid big problems down the road.

Totally get what you mean about everyone being scared to pick the interesting thing, vera681. My last car was this weird green color I loved and my dad would not stop asking if I was sure about it. Ended up with a boring grey sedan just to avoid the lectures. Feels like we're all trained to choose the background character version of everything.
