Finally got my fabric draping to look right after months of struggle

For the first year, I would just pin muslin flat on my dress form in Portland and hope for the best. About three months ago, I watched a video from a designer in Milan who stressed wetting the fabric first. I tried it on a simple shift dress pattern, and the way the cloth fell changed completely. Now I keep a spray bottle next to my form for every new idea. What's one small change that made a big difference in your design process?

Wetting the fabric is such a game changer, right? I had the same issue with jersey knits bunching up weirdly until I started using pattern weights instead of pins for the initial layout. It stopped the fabric from shifting and getting all stretched out of shape.

Wait, you can wet jersey knit? That sounds like it would totally ruin the stretch!

Hold up, you use pattern weights on jersey? I always thought you had to pin it down. Does that actually keep it from sliding around when you cut? I tried using my fabric scissors as a weight once and it was a total mess.
