Finally figured out how to make my own fabric patterns from scratch
For the first 6 months I just traced stuff from old clothes or bought basic patterns online. Then I took a weekend class at the community center in Tacoma and learned to draft a basic bodice block. Now I can tweak darts and seams to fit my own sketches, which is way better for my weird design ideas. Anyone else make the switch from buying patterns to drafting their own?

Oh totally, that bodice block is a game changer... I just started drafting my own skirts last month and it feels like a superpower now.

Tell me about it... once you get that block fitted right, everything else just clicks. I started messing with sleeve drafts from my block last week and my mind is blown. It feels like you've cracked the code and can make anything.

Totally agree pat, and @emma_clark you're absolutely right too, once you get that base right it opens up everything.
