A friend told me my color combos looked like a hospital waiting room

I was working on a spring line with a lot of light blues and grays, and my friend said it felt cold and sterile. I swapped the gray for a warm beige and it completely changed the mood of the collection. Has anyone else gotten blunt feedback that actually improved their work?

My old boss once said my website looked like a tax form. I was using so much black and white. Adding just one color, a rusty orange, made it feel like a real brand.
