So I threw out my leather apron and a pony approved of my fashion choice.
Honestly, I used to wear this beat-up leather apron for every shoeing job. Tbh, I thought I didn't need it anymore and stopped using it last week. Ngl, it was a mistake because a young colt got a bit playful and nibbled on my jeans. Now I have a hole that looks like a bite mark right on my thigh. I guess some habits are just meant to be.

Yeah that line about habits really hits home... my buddy who works with horses too decided his heavy gloves were slowing him down. He tossed them in a tack room corner after a few easy days. Then last Thursday a mare got spooked by a plastic bag and yanked the lead rope right through his hands... tore up his palms so bad he couldn't close them for two days. He said the weirdest part was looking down at his raw hands while the gloves were sitting clean in the other room.

Remember when I thought my helmet was messing up my hair for a trail ride? Ended up with a low branch to the forehead and a lump the size of a walnut. Who needs good hair when you can have a good brain, right?

Wow, that bite mark story hits close to home. After seeing @the_hannah talk about her friend's glove mistake, I remembered my own dumb move. I tried going without my chaps once because it was just a quick trim, but a nervous mare kicked out and grazed my leg. Now I always keep them hanging right by the stall door so I see them first thing. It made me realize that even on easy days, you never know when you'll need that extra layer. Some gear just becomes part of the routine for a good reason.
