My vet in Bozeman said my trimming was making a horse's navicular worse, and it hit different because he showed me the actual X-rays.

He pointed out how my heel height choice was putting pressure on a specific bone, so what's the best approach for a navicular case when you first get the radiographs?

Actually seeing the bone on film makes it real, doesn't it? For a navicular case, those first radiographs are key for setting a baseline trim to unload that area. @faith274, it's wild how much a single image can change your whole plan.

I used to think trimming helped but seeing those x-rays totally changed my mind.

faith274 those x-rays are wild right? Seeing how the quick actually grows down into the hoof wall was a game changer for me. It made me realize a lot of trims are just cutting into living tissue. My farrier started leaving more heel and my horse moved way better. The whole "must be pretty" idea does so much damage.
