Back in 2019 I watched an old-timer at the Kentucky State Fair show me a trick that changed my whole approach

I was at the Kentucky State Fair in 2019, watching this farrier who had to be in his 70s. He was using a simple wooden block to brace the horse's hoof while he shaped the shoe, and I'd never seen that before. I asked him about it and he said he'd been doing it that way for 40 years, never saw the need for fancy stands. I tried his method on a draft horse last week and it worked way better than my expensive stand. Has anyone else picked up old-school tricks from someone at a fair or clinic?

That old wooden block trick sounds like pure gold.

Admitted I thought it was overblown, @gavinlopez. Now I get it for sure.
