Back in 2019 I switched to using a 3/4 inch crease nail for most of my hunter clients. My buddy in Lexington says that's asking for trouble with hoof wall integrity. Where do you all stand on nail size for regular work?

Your Lexington buddy's point about hoof wall integrity, what's his main worry?

Is he worried about cracks or the whole structure?

Okay, but has anyone ever actually seen a hoof explode from a 3/4 inch nail? I'm picturing a cartoon puff of smoke and a tiny 'pop' sound. In my own mess-ups, the trouble usually starts when I'm having a bad day and my aim is off, not from the nail size itself. I've seen more issues from a poorly placed smaller nail than a clean 3/4 inch drive. Maybe I'm just lucky, or maybe my horses have super hooves.
