Just spotted a viral 'wild cougar' clip filmed right outside a pet store in Phoenix.
That supposedly dangerous predator was just someone's half-tame rescue they walk on a leash every Tuesday, so how does that not qualify as staged garbage?

and that's exactly what gets me about these viral "animal drama" clips. People see a big cat and immediately assume it's some wild threat when really it's just a rescue with a routine vet appointment. The whole thing feels like a setup from the start, someone filming and waiting for the reaction rather than just living their day. I hate how they play on people's fears for clicks, especially when it makes responsible pet owners look bad. It's exhausting trying to explain to friends that no, that's not a cougar on the loose, that's just Bob the rescue cat getting his nails trimmed.

Bob the rescue cat" is doing more for viral fame than I've done in my entire life.

and honestly do you think these people even care when they get called out? like once the vid goes viral and the comments start rolling in with the real story, the original poster just ghosts or deletes. they know what they did. the whole point was to get people worked up, not to educate anyone about big cats. i swear half the time the caption literally says "escaped panther spotted in neighborhood" but the cat is clearly wearing a harness or has a clipped ear from being fixed. it drives me insane how easy it is to fool people with a bad angle and some dramatic music.
