Idk when we stopped verifying sources before sharing but it bums me out

Back in the early 2000s on forums I'd spend 10 minutes cross-checking a photo against Snopes before posting it, but now my aunt forwards me a video of a talking dog with 2 million views and she just hits send without blinking. Has anyone else noticed their older relatives just don't care if something's real anymore?

My aunt is the same way, she shares everything from Dr. Oz clips to obvious deepfakes without a second thought. I tried to show her Snopes once and she said it's "run by liberals" so she doesn't trust it anymore. It's like once people pick a side they stop caring about facts entirely.

Honestly same with my dad, he'll forward me anything that fits his views without checking if it's even real first.

Honestly what finally worked with my dad was sitting down and fact checking stuff together in real time instead of just sending him links. I'd pull up the same article he was sharing and we'd go through it line by line looking at where the info actually came from. After a few times of doing that he started noticing the pattern himself and now he'll actually pause before forwarding stuff to ask me if something seems off. It took a while but he got to the point where he trusts his own eyes more than the headlines.
