Had to pick between chasing every viral story or sticking to real local news
I picked the local angle after seeing a friend share 3 fake stories in one week from some random satire site. Has anyone else stopped fact-checking for others because they just dont care anymore?

Used to roll my eyes at people who said local news mattered but yeah, you're right.

Lost a friend last year who kept sharing obvious clickbait, just gave up arguing.

My cousin's wife was the same way with those "doctors hate this one weird trick" ads. I tried explaining how the algorithm works and how they target people who engage, but she just got defensive and said I was being mean. Last Thanksgiving she tried to tell me that drinking alkaline water cures arthritis, based on some Facebook video with 2 million views. I just nodded and ate my mashed potatoes at that point. You can't save everyone from themselves, I guess.
