Was convinced I could use a towel to dry my phone after dropping it in the toilet

Year ago I dropped my phone in a public restroom sink at a gas station in Ohio and thought a paper towel would fix it. Two hours later the screen went black and I had to buy a new one for $800. What's the dumbest fix you tried that made things way worse?

Isn't it funny how we've all been trained to treat modern devices like they still run on 1990s logic? @avery_lopez mentioned blowing on the charging port, and that's exactly what I mean - we learn these habits from old tech and then wonder why they backfire on things that cost more than a used car. The real lesson here is that our instincts for fixing things haven't caught up to how fragile and sealed-up everything has become.

120 bucks for a replacement screen later and I realized paper towels aren't waterproof. Thought blowing on the charging port like an old Nintendo cartridge would fix it, just got spit in there. My phone's still mad at me three years later.

That whole thing reminds me of how we all just assume stuff works the same way it used to. Blowing on a charging port is basically the 2020s version of kicking a vending machine. We've all been trained by old tech to think spit and force are solutions. But the real pattern is how we never read the manual or think things through until we already messed up. Its like every single product now comes with this built-in assumption that you'll break it before you figure out how to actually treat it right. The whole world is designed around us learning the hard way.
