Watching a 60 year old guy nail a TikTok dance at a wedding in Chicago made me rethink everything

I was at my cousin's wedding last weekend and saw her dad absolutely kill the 'Renegade' dance that was huge like 4 years ago. He learned it from his granddaughter and the whole room went nuts, way more than for any new trend. So are we just cycling through old viral stuff now, or is that proof some trends have real staying power if they're simple and fun enough?

Maybe it's not about the dance itself, but the shared memory it unlocks. That guy doing the Renegade wasn't just showing a move, he was proving he's still part of the group's inside joke. The trend's power comes from becoming a common language everyone forgot they knew.

Honestly that's just how weddings work now. The real dance floor hits are always the stuff from ten years ago that your aunt can still remember. Saw a whole group of dads perfectly do the "Cupid Shuffle" last month, which feels like it should be in a museum at this point. Maybe trends aren't dead, they're just retired and waiting for an open bar to bring them back. That 60 year old nailing the Renegade is probably the most powerful person in that room.

Remember my buddy's wedding last fall? His grandma, full on 78 years old, cleared the floor doing the "Wobble" like a pro. She had the whole arm roll move down and everything. The DJ said he'd never seen a crowd lose it like that for a line dance.
