Tried that no-mow grass trend in my backyard and got a surprise

I let a patch of my lawn in Portland go wild for 6 weeks after reading about that no-mow movement online. Figured I'd save on gas and help the bees, but my neighbor actually complained to the HOA about weeds taking over. What I learned is that trendy ideas like this don't work unless you're ready for the real upkeep or have a plan that fits your specific yard. Has anyone else tried this and dealt with pushback from neighbors?

Good luck convincing an HOA that anarchy in your front yard is actually "environmental stewardship." My neighbor threatened to call the city on my "weed sanctuary" until I pointed out his dandelions were taller than mine. Turns out trendy grass ideas work a LOT better when you live in the middle of nowhere instead of next to someone who mows every Thursday at 7am sharp.

Ha, fair point @jenniferw82 - but I'd argue my "weed patch" actually got my HOA to relax a little.

My HOA almost sent me a cease and desist for my "eco-friendly experiment" too.
