Spent $80 on a cheap bench power supply and it almost set my desk on fire

I bought this no-name 30V 5A supply off Amazon because it was half the price of the name brands, and after three weeks the fan failed and the thing started smoking. Your mileage may vary, but I learned the hard way that you really do get what you pay for with electronics gear. Has anyone else had a cheap tool go bad like that?

Get a cheap kill-a-watt or inline fuse between the wall and the supply, that alone would've saved your desk. Name brands are worth the extra cash when fire is on the line.
