Showerthought: I waited 30 minutes for a coffee shop in Portland that only existed in a TikTok trend
Last month I saw a video on my feed about this super aesthetic coffee spot in Portland with these beautiful latte art drinks. Looked amazing, so I drove over there on a Saturday morning. Got in line, waited half an hour. When I got to the counter I realized they filmed the video somewhere else entirely. The barista said it's a common thing now with smaller cafes. People just use trendy backgrounds from other places to make their shop look cooler. Has anyone else driven somewhere based on a social media post and found out the whole thing was staged?

I mean, is it really that deep though? Yeah it sucks driving out for a spot that's not all that, but it was just a coffee and half hour of your Saturday lol. Feels like people are acting like they got scammed out of rent money when it's really just a mildly annoying morning.

Read a news article about this exact thing a couple weeks ago. Turns out a bunch of these trendy cafes hire influencers to make fake videos. They use fancy props, different lighting, sometimes even a whole different location. One report said some shops pay up to two grand for a single staged post. It's just another way to trick people into showing up. Feels like half the stuff online is fake now.
