My buddy Dave from work spent 3 hours editing a single TikTok last night and I asked him why he even bothers

He said his first video got 50k views in a day and now he's convinced that one more viral hit could land him a brand deal, but I pointed out he's been at this for 8 months with nothing else sticking and he just shrugged and started tweaking the color grade again, has anyone here actually seen a short-term trend turn into anything real?

Does Dave still seem to get a kick out of making the videos themselves or is it just the numbers? I totally get it though, my cousin spent a whole summer trying to make a custom skateboard go viral and now the thing just sits in his garage.

@cora_scott77 pretty much nailed it. My garage has a half-finished birdhouse from my viral woodworking phase.

Totally feel for your friend Dave honestly. I think a lot of us have that one small taste of success that keeps us hooked even when everything else flops. I saw a girl from my old high school get a brand deal off a single 30 second dance video last year so I get why he thinks it could happen. But 8 months is a long time to keep pouring hours into color grading without a single other hit. Sometimes that first video is just a weird algorithm fluke and chasing that high again can be brutal. Hope he finds a way to enjoy making stuff without putting so much pressure on himself.
