Hit 1,000 followers on my niche art account last night
I started this dumb sketch page 3 months ago just to post weird doodles of cats in historical outfits. Like Victorian wigs and pirate hats. Didn't think anyone would care but I hit 1,000 followers last night. That's wild because my main account with years of effort has like 400. It made me wonder if these super niche accounts are a flash in the pan or if people actually want to stick around for the long haul. The engagement numbers are way higher than my generic art posts too. Has anyone else blown up on a weird niche account and seen it keep growing past the initial spike?

Bet on that weird niche thing and lean into it hard before the algorithm decides your audience is actually people who want to see something else.

Oh man, I gotta push back on that one @hunt.quinn. Leaning into a weird niche feels like a trap to me. The algorithm doesn't care what you double down on - it cares what keeps people clicking. If that weird thing isn't growing your audience, you're just digging a deeper hole for yourself. I've seen people go all in on some ultra specific topic, then when the algorithm shifts, they're stuck with zero room to pivot because their whole identity is tied to that one weird corner. Better to spread out your content and let the platform tell you what's working instead of forcing it.

Betting the whole farm on one weird thing sounds like a lot of pressure for a hobby that's supposed to be fun. Most people aren't running a media empire off their niche cat meme page or 3D printed lamp reviews. Probably better to just post what you enjoy and see what sticks without turning it into a life or death strategy.
