Took a ride to a shop in Austin and changed my tune on cold air intakes
I used to think cold air intakes were just noise makers, not real performance parts. But I visited a shop called Ace Performance down on South Congress last Saturday. The owner showed me dyno sheets from three F150 builds they did last month. One truck picked up 18 horsepower and 2 miles per gallon just from swapping the intake tube and filter. The key was the heat shield design and keeping the filter away from the radiator. Have any of you seen real dyno gains from a cold air intake on a 5.0?

Man that's a solid gain for just swapping the intake tube and filter. I've been skeptical of the whole cold air intake game for years, but seeing real dyno sheets changes things. The heat shield placement is probably the biggest piece of the puzzle, keeping that filter away from the radiator's hot air makes a ton of sense. Glad you got to see the proof in person, that's way better than trusting internet hype.

Damn right! I had the same exact turnaround after seeing a shop in Dallas do a 5.0 Mustang, picked up 15 wheel horsepower just from moving the filter behind the headlight with a good heat shield.
