My neighbor in Flagstaff said my cold air intake was just a loud paperweight for my 5.0

He argued the stock box flows fine until you do heads and a cam, so I swapped back and honestly noticed zero power drop. Anyone run into this debate on a mostly stock truck?

My buddy in Phoenix did the same thing with his Coyote Mustang. He spent like 300 bucks on a shiny intake tube just to hear more engine whoosh. We put it on the dyno for laughs and it made maybe two extra horsepower. He sold it a week later and bought a nice steak dinner instead.

Two horsepower for three hundred bucks is a special kind of math. Your buddy basically paid for a really expensive kazoo that makes vroom sounds. I get what @amy483 is saying about the noise, but at that point just roll the windows down and make your own mouth noises. At least the steak dinner was real power you could actually use.
