Hot take: those cheap ported throttle bodies aren't worth it

I swapped on a $200 throttle body from eBay last summer on my 2018 5.0 and the throttle response felt snappier for about 2 weeks. Then I threw a check engine light for lean codes and had to put the stock one back on. Has anyone else dealt with a cheap mod causing driveability issues down the road?

Had a buddy try one on his Mustang and the idle went crazy after a month.

Man that’s a bummer but honestly I’m not surprised. My buddy put one of those cheap throttle bodies on his Camaro and it ran great for like a week then started surging at idle like it was having a panic attack. He ended up tossing it in the trash and getting a ported stock one from a guy who actually knows what he’s doing. Sometimes you gotta learn the hard way that eBay deals are more like eBay gambling.
