Why does everyone hype those $20 Amazon desk lamps?

Bought one of those gooseneck LED lamps everyone raves about. Stopped working after 13 days. Replacing it cost more in gas than the lamp itself. Anyone find a desk lamp that actually lasts more than a month?

Man, Amazon lamps are total garbage. They're made to last just past the return window, that's it. I learned my lesson after the third one died on me. Spent $40 on a basic halogen lamp from a hardware store and it's been going strong for like 4 years now. You really gotta pay for decent build quality with lighting. Those cheap LEDs use the worst components imaginable, they'll fry themselves in no time. Save yourself the headache and just buy something with a metal shade and a proper UL sticker on it.
