Unpopular opinion: Digging into meme lore felt pointless before this one click

Always ignored memes with obscure origins. Just noise to me. Then saw that 'this is fine' dog in a new context. Made zero sense. A friend sent me a deep dive on its history. Now I see the layers in that simple image. It's about accepting chaos, not just a funny dog.

That dog comic really does change when you know it's from a webcomic about anxiety. Makes me wonder about other ones. Like the 'woman yelling at cat' meme. Does it hit different knowing it's from a real show and a random cat video smashed together? Or does that just make it a dumb joke again? Where's the line for you?

But sometimes digging too deep just ruins the fun of a simple joke.

Totally get where you're coming from. I used to scroll past those origin stories too, but that same dog comic hit me the same way. It's wild how a simple drawing can hit so much harder once you know the story behind it. Makes you wonder what other jokes are hiding bigger feelings. Do you find yourself looking for the story behind other memes now, or was it just that one?
