Tried that 'distressed leather' meme trend on my old couch. Total disaster.

I saw this meme going around about making a vintage look with sandpaper and vinegar. Figured I'd try it on my brown leather couch that I got from Goodwill. After 2 hours of rubbing, I had a patchy mess that looks like my cat attacked it. Now I'm stuck with a couch that's worse than before. Has anyone else fallen for a DIY meme that backfired?

Heard my buddy Mike tried that same thing on his dad's old recliner... spent like three hours scrubbing with vinegar and steel wool. Said it looked alright at first but then the leather started peeling off in chunks the next day. His dog wouldn't even lay on it anymore. He ended up having to throw the whole chair out and buy a slipcover for the replacement.

Wait wait the dog wouldn't even lay on it? That's honestly the most heartbreaking part of this whole thing. Dogs know comfort better than any human, so if a dog refuses to sit on your DIY project you've really messed up. Your buddy must have felt like the biggest fool watching his dog avoid the chair like it was cursed or something. At least the slipcover was a smart save though, hiding the evidence of a bad idea under some fabric.

Oh boy, I tried that and now my couch looks like a mangy stray dog.
