Still thinking about that guy at the record store who yelled at me over a $8 vinyl

Dug through a crate at Vinyl Frontier in Denver last Saturday. Guy behind me watched me pull out a scratched copy of Rumours and just snapped. Told me I was ruining the hobby by buying for resale. I wasn't even gonna flip it. Just wanted the cover art. Makes me wonder - do we gatekeep too much or not enough? What's your take on calling people out in public like that?

Jumped right into that guy's face for no reason. I had something similar happen at a flea market in Austin. Picked up a beat up copy of London Calling with a cracked case and some old dude came over and started lecturing me about preserving the integrity of punk rock. I literally just wanted to use the cover as wall art in my apartment. Some people think every vinyl purchase has to be some sacred ritual. They forget that music is supposed to be fun and not some test you have to pass.

Man I read something last week about how vinyl snobs actually drive down sales because they scare off new collectors. Makes total sense right? Like who wants to deal with some gatekeeper when you're just trying to enjoy music your own way. That London Calling cover as wall art sounds awesome honestly, better than it rotting in a bin somewhere. People act like they own the culture when really they're just making it harder for everyone else to participate.
