Spent two hours trying to figure out a meme about a frog and a mailbox

I saw this picture of a frog next to a mailbox with the caption 'ribbit for your rights' and I just didn't get it. I looked up frog memes, political memes, even old post office ads. Turns out it's a super niche joke about a local election in Portland from like 2015. Who even remembers that? Has anyone else wasted a ton of time on a meme that turned out to be some inside joke from years ago?

Spent a whole afternoon once down a rabbit hole about a picture of a confused-looking cat next to a toaster. Convinced it was some deep metaphor, but it was just a screenshot from a forgotten unboxing video. The internet is a museum of inside jokes nobody got the memo for.

Ugh, that's the worst! Been there. Found this super grainy photo of a guy in a bear suit staring at a fire hydrant. Wrote a whole thing about urban alienation. Turns out it was from a local news bit about a stolen mascot costume. The real story is always so lame.

Actually, that sounds about right for the internet, simonh74. It's less a museum and more like a giant, messy yard sale where all the context got lost. You find these weird, specific things and the real story is almost always way more boring than the metaphor you imagined.
