Overheard two kids at the mall saying 'slay' about a coffee cup and I felt ancient
I was at the Galleria in Dallas last Saturday waiting for my latte and these two teens pointed at a plain white cup and said 'that's such a slay move.' I literally looked around thinking something exciting was happening. Turns out they just meant the cup looked good? I asked my younger cousin later and she explained it's just a hype word now for anything positive. Has anyone else felt totally lost trying to keep up with current slang from like Gen Z?

Okay, @jakel36, but is it really me complaining, or are you just mad that you also had to look up what "slay" meant last year? I think you're kind of missing the point, which is that language changes super fast and it's okay to feel a little lost sometimes. Like, I'm not saying "slay" is bad, I'm just saying the first time I heard a kid say it about a cup of coffee my brain just short circuited (and not in a good way). It's more about how the context shifts from something dramatic to something as simple as a vanilla latte. So yeah, maybe I sound old, but at least I'm asking questions instead of just acting like I've always known what "slay" means.

Nah it's called "slay" and you sound even older complaining about it.

My buddy Dave heard his niece say "that sweater slaps" and spent twenty minutes trying to figure out if it was a good thing or if the sweater literally hit her.
