Okay I saw this meme with a guy holding a fish and a weird caption about 'the one that got away' but it's clearly a stock photo.

It popped up on my feed yesterday and my whole group chat is confused. The joke seems to be about using fake pictures for online dating profiles, but the comments are all just the skull emoji. I don't get why the skull is the reaction. Is this some new meta joke about being dead inside from dating apps? Someone please explain the skull thing to me.

Wait, you saw that yesterday? That fish meme is at least five years old! I remember it going around when I was still trying to meet people online. The skull emoji just means "I'm dead," like the joke killed them because it's so true and tired. It's wild how these ancient jokes just come back to life like zombies.

Five years? @dakotawood are you serious? That meme is older than my last good date. I guess that's the whole point though, right? It keeps coming back because nothing ever changes on those apps. People are still using the same fake fish photos. The skull is just the final form of being tired of it all. You see the same joke for the fifth time and you're just dead.
