Just found out that almost half of all viral memes are remixed from posts over 3 years old

I was reading an article on Know Your Meme and it said 45% of memes trending right now are just reworked versions of stuff from 2020 or earlier, has anyone else noticed old jokes popping back up with new faces?

Know Your Meme's data checks out, I've been seeing those "distracted boyfriend" templates resurface with new captions from 2017. It's kind of comforting actually, knowing the internet's just circling back on the same jokes we've always shared.

@dakotawood I get why you find it comforting but I see it different. Just feels like we're running out of new ideas and the internet's getting lazy, not that we're sharing something timeless.
