Hit 10k upvotes on a meme I thought was just okay and now I'm confused

I posted a picture of a cat looking at a cucumber with the caption 'me when the mild inconvenience' on a meme subreddit last week. It blew up way past my usual 50-100 likes, and I don't get why it's so popular when the joke feels pretty basic. What am I missing about why this specific format took off?

Heard it's all about the timing (and the algorithm's weird moods).

Ugh, tell me about it @chen.casey. I posted something at 2 PM that got nothing, then reworded it slightly and posted at 9 PM and it blew up. The algorithm feels like a moody gatekeeper. One day it loves a simple photo of your coffee, the next it ignores a video you worked on for hours. It's enough to make you want to just close the app sometimes.

Used to think it was all about the content... but seeing stuff like this makes you realize timing really is everything.
