Walked into a spa in Portland that used those disposable plastic spatulas for everything and it bugged me more than it should
I popped into this trendy place last Friday for a quick facial observation and every single product they applied came out of a jar with a single-use plastic spatula that just got tossed right after - has anyone else noticed how much waste that actually creates compared to just sanitizing metal tools?

Every single product they applied came out of a jar with a single-use plastic spatula" - yeah that's kinda how a lot of those places roll now lol. But honestly, the real waste is probably from the product itself getting tossed or sitting in a landfill for a thousand years, not just the little spatula. I used to work at a spa years back and we had these metal spatulas we'd just wash and reuse, but the boss said it was easier to use plastic since nobody wanted to scrub them between clients. Still feels wasteful though, especially when you see a whole bucket of those little things getting dumped after one use.

Portland has been getting bad about this honestly. I went to a place off Hawthorne last month and they went through like 30 of those little plastic sticks in my 45 minute facial. The worst part was watching the esthetician toss each one after dipping it once into a jar that probably had enough product left for 10 more people. Felt like I was watching a recycling PSA in reverse.
