The facial I gave last week made me miss the old days of skincare

Last Tuesday I had a client come in asking for a 12-step Korean routine facial. Three years ago people were happy with a simple cleanse, steam, and a mask. I spent 45 minutes just layering serums and toners when a good extractions session would have done more for her congestion. Does anyone else feel like we are overcomplicating things now compared to 2019?

12-step Korean routine facial" - man that sounds exhausting just reading it. I had a client last year who wanted the whole K-beauty thing, like 10 layers of stuff, and by the end I felt like I was just slapping products on for the sake of it. What worked for me was putting my foot down a bit, saying hey, lets do a good deep cleanse, some light extractions where she needed it, and a simple hydrating mask instead. She was skeptical at first but her skin looked way better than the times we did the long routines. Sometimes less really is more, people get caught up in the hype but your gut knows what works.

Actually the whole 12 step thing is a bit of a myth even in Korea. Most dermatologists there say you only really need like 5-6 steps max depending on your skin type. All those extra layers are just marketing to sell more bottles.
