That one client who asked why I didn't wear gloves during a facial still haunts me

Last Wednesday, a woman in her 50s sat up mid-treatment and said, 'Aren't you supposed to wear gloves for hygiene?' I just froze and explained I was doing a manual extractions step where I need to feel the skin texture. Has anyone else gotten this question and how do you handle it without sounding defensive?

@wright.lisa nailed it, people just think they know better from watching a 2 minute tutorial.

Yeah, I used to be that person too until I actually learned what goes into it.

That one client who asked why I didn't wear gloves during a facial still haunts me" - I feel that, because it's like people have this checklist in their heads from watching too many YouTube videos or something. It's the same deal when someone at a restaurant asks if the chef washed their hands after they see them sneeze in the back. We all have this weird obsession with visible hygiene rules, but nobody stops to think that sometimes the person doing the job actually knows what they're doing without the extra layer of plastic. You handled it fine, it's just people love to point out the obvious without understanding the nuance.
