I finally stopped over-exfoliating clients after a bad reaction at a wedding trial
Had a bride last month whose skin peeled 3 days before her big day because I kept doing those strong enzyme peels every visit. Her makeup artist sent me a photo and I felt terrible. Has anyone else had a moment where less really is more with aggressive treatments?

Read this thing from a dermatologist saying your skin barrier takes about 4 weeks to fully recover, and it made me rethink all those aggressive booking schedules. Less really is more with peels, learned that one the hard way too.

okay but i gotta push back a little here. i mean i get the whole skin barrier thing and i've definitely overdone it before but four weeks feels like a rule that works for someone who's just starting out or has super sensitive skin. if you've been doing peels for years and know your skin's limits you can usually bounce back way faster than that. i do a mild salicylic peel every two weeks and my skin is fine as long as i moisturize like crazy and skip the harsh stuff in between. the dermatologist is technically right but they have to be extra cautious because people will blame them if something goes wrong. honestly i think the whole "less is more" thing gets used as a blanket statement when really it's more about knowing your own skin's pace. i've learned that pushing it a little can give you way better results as long as you're paying attention to how your skin actually reacts not just a calendar.
