Honestly, I was at a spa in Asheville last weekend and their approach to extractions was totally different from mine.

Tbh, the esthetician there used a steamer for a full 15 minutes before even touching the skin, which is way longer than my usual 5, and I'm curious if anyone else has seen better results with that kind of extended prep time?

Longer steam sessions are a total game changer for tough skin. @kevin_harris78 is onto something with that 20 minute rule. My clients with oily skin see way less redness when I give the pores more time to soften up first. It just makes everything come out cleaner.

My old mentor in Charlotte swore by a 20 minute steam for congested, mature skin. She said the extra time softened sebum deep in the follicle lining, making manual extraction less traumatic and reducing post-facial redness for her clients.

My buddy's wife is an esthetician and she tried that longer steam thing after hearing about it. She had a client with really stubborn congestion, like nothing was working. She did a full 20 minute steam, just like your mentor said, and she told me the difference was wild. The stuff just came out with barely any pressure, and the client's skin wasn't angry and red after like it usually was. It totally changed how she does extractions now.
