Had a client last week insist I use her husband's beard oil as a facial moisturizer

She handed me a bottle labeled 'Lumberjack Blend' and said it did wonders for his psoriasis, so I had to explain why pine tar and wintergreen are not great for your T-zone without being rude about it, has anyone else dealt with clients bringing in partner's products?

18 bucks a bottle for that Lumberjack Blend and you bet the client's husband is probably dabbing it on his face twice a day. But here's the thing - did you actually ask her how long he'd been using it before she decided it was a miracle cure? Cause I'm guessing it's been maybe two weeks and the psoriasis is flaring up worse now that the wintergreen is drying out his skin barrier.

Well ACTUALLY, pine tar has been used for centuries in traditional healing and wintergreen is basically natural methyl salicylate. Maybe that husband's psoriasis was clearing up because the strong stuff was actually working - not everything needs to be fancy lab-made products.

Oh man, pine tar and wintergreen on your face? That's a hard no from me! Here's something nobody's brought up yet - what if the client's husband secretly swapped that beard oil for a gentle moisturizer and just kept the Lumberjack bottle? I had a friend whose partner did that with his cologne after she complained about the smell, just refilled it with something milder. So the wife might be thinking the beard oil is a miracle cure when really her husband's been using Nivea this whole time. Have you ever had a client completely fooled by a product switch like that?
