Found out my favorite moisturizer has been expired for 6 months
I was cleaning out my esthetics cabinet last night and noticed the little jar icon on the back of a cream I use daily. Turns out it shows how many months it's good after opening, and mine was at 18 months past. I checked the batch code online and found out it was actually manufactured 3 years ago. Who else forgets to check those little symbols on the bottom of their products?

Okay wait, is that the little jar with the number on the back? I always forget to look at that thing. I'm pretty sure half my skincare is older than it should be.

Right, so I just write the date I open something on the bottle with a sharpie now. It saves so much guesswork and keeps you from using stuff that's basically just expensive goop.

Grabbed a sharpie right after reading this @tara_jones94, because honestly I've been using a night cream I bought during a pandemic lockdown (so like, 2020 maybe?) and the texture always felt a little off. Like it was separating or something, but I just kept rubbing it on my face thinking maybe I wasn't shaking it enough. Turns out old moisturizer can actually grow bacteria even if it still smells okay, and I've been basically painting my skin with a petri dish. My esthetician friend told me expired products lose their preservatives over time which is why they start to feel weird, and now I'm paranoid about everything in my bathroom cabinet. I'm about to go on a purge spree and throw out anything with a questionable history, including that lip gloss I bought when I was still dating my ex.
