A client with eczema changed my mind about oil cleansing

She came in for a facial in March and told me her dermatologist said to try a plain mineral oil cleanse, but I was skeptical and suggested my usual gel cleanser instead. Her skin got way more irritated, so she switched to the oil like her doc said and sent me a photo two weeks later showing huge improvement. Has anyone else had a client's medical advice completely override your standard protocol?

Honestly, that's a tough spot to be in. You want to trust your training and what usually works, but then a client's actual results with their doctor's plan just stare you right in the face. I've had a similar thing happen with a client's super simple moisturizer from her doctor beating out the fancy stuff I picked. It really makes you step back and remember that sometimes the simplest fix, even if it goes against your usual routine, is what the skin actually needs.

Yeah, it's a humbling moment for sure. You spend all this time learning the complex stuff, and then a basic doctor's script comes in and works better. Makes you wonder if we overcomplicate skin care sometimes, doesn't it?

Doctors know bodies, we know skin (agree with @xena1).
