TIL my governor rope splice was failing inspection because of a single comment about my serving technique.
An inspector in Charlotte pointed out I was using too many tucks on the short splice, saying 'three is plenty, four is a weak point waiting to happen.' Has anyone else had a spec called out that way?

Honestly makes you wonder if the inspector has ever actually worked a line themselves. Sometimes the book guys get hung up on one detail and miss the bigger picture of a solid splice. That extra tuck might be overkill but it's not automatically junk. Seen way more failures from sloppy serving or worn rope than from a perfect splice with one extra turn.

Spot on, emma_clark, this happens everywhere with rule sticklers.

Our foreman says that extra tuck has never caused a single failure in ten years.
