PSA: Tokyo hotel elevators are too quiet. Weird coming home to the usual rattle.

Has it ever made you jump when the doors open without a sound? From what I've seen, the way they build things in Japan often cuts down on noise. Your mileage may vary, but I found it unsettling at first. Take this with a grain of salt, but I read that it's about making a calm spot in busy hotels. It's weird how we get used to certain sounds, like that rattle back home.

Put a piece of tape on the door frame as a visual marker until your brain adjusts. I stayed in a Kyoto hotel where the only tip-off was the handle moving, so I started watching for that shadow gap instead of listening. You’re right, it’s all about retraining your expectations in those quiet spaces.

Unsettling" is a bit much. It's just a quiet door. Averywilliams has a point about retraining your brain, but it's not that deep. You get used to it after like a day.
